Our main RAID array (bunch of disks storing our data) was really screwed by data centre engineers, who first replaced the wrong disk, then decided to pull other disks on working server for no apparent reason. Which resulted in RAID being crashed.
We're working trying to recover it.
UPDATE 1
So far it looks like we might lose the data, we're keeping fingers crossed. Engineers that manage servers when asked what's going on and when it will be over did not give any estimation.
Funny thing - when asked are they at least going to apologize for this mess, they've replied (quote) "Sorry for the inconvenience".
UPDATE 2
McHost.ru (the company managing servers) is not even bothering to respond to emails regarding current situation.
They have destroyed our data - now they are just ignoring any communication. Very professional indeed.
Also they do not give you any sort of phone number to contact in emergencies - as any decent data-centre operators would do. They are actually hiding phone numbers - it is not available on their site, just email addresses.
UPDATE 3
McHost's online support has promised that we will get e-mail reply in next 15 minutes. So far 15 minutes is almost over.
UPDATE 4
We've got the reply from McHost. They are unable to restore RAID. Which basically means that McHost.ru has destroyed Bitsnoop.com as it were. Due to their own incompetence.

ReplyDeleteOMG ... We need bitsnoop back up . It's my favourite torrent search site (I use it everyday). Such a great site !!
ReplyDeleteLove you guys . Keep the GREAT site alive .
So what's all going to be lost? the whole database? or just comments and shit?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say right now, might be the whole thing. Well, that will force us offline for couple of weeks before we rebuild indexes.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see. :-)
ew, that's not good but at least you'll be back, this is THE best free torrent site around!
ReplyDeleteHope you are able to work things out soon. I also am a daily user that is already missing the site.
ReplyDeletewell I guess will see ya in a few weeks after some indexing....
ReplyDeleteYou guys are the best torrent search site. Sad to read this :(
ReplyDeleteThis is a horrible development. Your site is fantastic. Is it possible that theMcHost.ru guys were paid off by RIAA, etc. to destroy the drive to take you offline? It certainly would be cheaper than going to court.
ReplyDelete@ Mohammad
ReplyDeleteWe do not think so, this turned out to be just a really unlucky coincidence multiplied by human factor.
maybe try another hosting company? ovh.net ?
ReplyDeleteAnything hosted in the russian business district is going to not do so well. I mean hell they make most their money hosting hard core kiddie porn there.
ReplyDelete@Clayton
ReplyDeleteSorry to disappoint you, but you're posting a complete nonsense.
I am sad that your indexer is down as it was a marvelous creation. Please don't be discouraged and rebuild if you can. I used your site everyday and miss it very much
ReplyDelete@Muzique D'Art
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support! We're working on bringing it back - and much better one.
We've had next-gen indexer in development when disaster struck - we plan to finish it and bring it online.
If you have a mean to distribute the load for rebuilding the indices among volunteers please let us know how we can participate. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHey, I hope you can rebuild the index soon. We users have faith in you :)
ReplyDeleteRAID is not a backup strategy.
ReplyDelete@Sergio
ReplyDeleteYes, we're kinda aware of it.
The problem is that data-centre operator does not offer any backup services and they do not have quality outside links to ship data out of DC daily.
Still, not having a full backup was our mistake, we do admit that.
McHost.ru needs their asses kicked.
ReplyDeleteJust started useing BitSnoop recently and regularly after comparing the results to engines I used before (and sometimes simultaniously). Appreciate your service and would'nt think of torrenting without it... So thank you and good luck!

PS: Kind of thought RAID was a backup strategy... ;)
